Nestled under a canopy of century-old grandfather oaks in the heart of Lake County Florida, Big Oaks Mini Farm is our little haven for family...and a handful of furry friends. In 2021, we bought this 160-year-old farmhouse with a vision to restore the home and follow our passion of raising and breeding Mini Highland cows.
At Big Oaks Mini Farm, we take pride in lovingly raising Miniature Highland cows in Central Florida. As a small hobby farm, we are dedicated to providing our animals with the highest quality of care and attention. All of our calves are available for deposit, but we wait until they are weaned to send them to their forever homes, and we use fence line weaning to ensure a stress-free transition.
Highlands are an exceptionally hardy breed of cattle originating in the Highlands and coastal islands of Scotland. They are known for their coat of hair, long fringe of bangs that cover their eyes, and long horns. Miniature Highland cows are smaller than their traditional counterparts, and we find that they are more manageable for small acreage properties. Micro Highlands are even smaller, while mid-sized Highlands fall in between. The Highland breed dates back to the 6th century in Scotland and has been prized for its hardiness, adaptability, and quality of meat. We are honored to continue the tradition of raising Highland cattle and sharing their unique qualities with our customers.
Our mission is to help sprinkle joy and happiness throughout the world through the joys of Highland ownership. We know how much joy they bring us and we want others to experience the same joy and happiness. We spoil our fold and want to ensure everyone will have the best life experience that God so graciously gifted us with.
